Kathmandu: The Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising has inspected the flood-affected areas in Jhapa this morning. 



He visited the bridges and settlements that were damaged by the Kankai and Biring rivers in Arjundhara Municipality and Jhapa Rural Municipality. 



While returning from inspecting various locations affected by landslides in Ilam, Minister Ghising also conducted a field visit of the road connecting Kalisthan from Chiyapani via Buttabari in Arjundhara Municipality and the Mangalmadi route. 



Minister Ghising has inspected the bridge under construction over the Kankai Mai River, along the Postal Highway section of Jhapa Rural Municipality, as well as the small bridge at Sanomai that has been affected by the rains, said Tej Prakash Prasai, the Assistant Chief District Officer of Jhapa. 



During this visit, the Minister also engaged in a brief interaction with the flood-affected residents of Jhapa Rural Municipality-2.

Kathmandu: Representatives of the Gen-Z protest have called on all political parties to participate in the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. 



Speaking to the media following a meeting with the Prime Minister and members of the Council of Ministers at the Office of the President today, they expressed strong belief that all political parties would take part in the elections and make the most of the opportunity. 



Describing the election as a democratic process, Gen-Z representative Miraj Dhungana stated that elections are a means of electing the people's representatives. 



He expressed hope that the elections would be conducted in a free, fair, and impartial manner. He urged all political parties to engage in the electoral process and take part in fair competition. 



"A new force may emerge from the election," he added. Dhungana also stressed that those who played a significant role in elevating the street movement should be included in the current Council of Ministers. 



On Friday, President Ramchandra Paudel convened a meeting with leaders of political parties, including representatives from the dissolved parliament and the government, to discuss the upcoming elections. 



During the meeting, political parties demanded guarantees of peace and security for the elections, while the government urged all parties to participate in the elections.

Kathmandu: The World Mental Health Day is being celebrated today to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. 



The day celebration had begun since 1992 as a powerful reminder that there is no health without mental health. This year’s campaign focuses on the urgent need to support the mental health and psychosocial needs of people affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies.



Supporting the mental well-being of individuals during such crises is not just important – it saves lives, gives people the strength to cope, the space to heal and to recover and rebuild not only as individuals but as communities, the United Nations (UN) states. 



The global governance body has urged everyone, including government officials, health and social care providers, school staff and community groups to come together to protect the wellbeing of everyone. 



"By investing in evidence and community-based interventions, we can address immediate mental health needs, foster long-term recovery, and empower people and communities to rebuild their lives and thrive", it is stated. 



The World Health Organization (WHO) calls for all member-state to intensify collective efforts to create a world where mental health is valued, protected, and accessible for all, especially in the face of adversity.

World Mental Health Day being marked today

Kathmandu: In view of the urgency of reconstructing public infrastructures, providing relief materials and forwarding economic recovery after the Gen-Z protest, the government has decided to transfer budgets. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, shared this information as the Cabinet decisions during a press meet on Friday. 



The budget transfer was aimed at addressing the problems in the adverse situation. It would be spent for holding election to the House of Representatives and reviving economy, he added. 



Similarly, a team would be formed under the leadership of joint secretary at Finance Ministry to hold dialogue with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on receiving the grant of 100 million US dollars for the project on strengthening public finance management and effectiveness of service delivery. 



An energy bond of Rs 20 billion would be issued phase wise for the management of resources at Nepal Electricity Authority. Ilam district has been declared the disaster emergency zone for three months. The government also made decisions on some foreign visits of Nepali delegates to attend the international events and transfer of civil employees.

Govt decides to transfer budgets for reconstruction, economic recovery

Kathmandu: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has initiated corruption charges against seven people, including two former ministers. 



Today, the CIAA submitted the charge sheet against the individuals including former Minister of the Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajkumar Gupta and former Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Ranjita Shrestha for their involvement in corruption. 



A case has been lodged in the Special Court in Kathmandu, stemming from an investigation into an audio recording in which then-Minister Gupta purportedly accepted 5.3 million Nepali rupees from a real estate trade to facilitate the transfer of Ramchandra Adhikari, who was the head of the Land Revenue Office in Kaski district at the time, and allegedly negotiated a bribe of 2.5 million rupees to appoint him as a member of the Land Commission. 



The Commission has filed the case seeking fines and penalties against then-Minister Gupta for 7.8 million rupees, former Minister Shrestha for 7.8 million rupees, Ramchandra Adhikari, the former Chief Land Revenue Officer of Kaski, Pokhara, for 5.3 million rupees, real estate intermediary Sujan Kumar Lama (also referred to as Sujan Kumar Tamang) for 7.8 million rupees, defendant Khem Pun (also known as Khamba Bahadur Pun) for 2.5 million rupees, defendant Yama Kumari Gurung for 7.8 million rupees, and defendant Tulsiram Budhamagar for 7.8 million rupees.

Corruption case filed against seven including two former ministers

Kathmandu: Road transport continues to be affected in the major roads in Rasuwa, Sankhuwasabha, Kavre and Rukum (east) due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains a few days ago. As a result, many who had left Kathmandu Valley to their village homes for Dashain festival have been facing difficulties in returning to their workplace and temporary residence. 



Spokesperson of the Department of Roads Prabhat Kumar Jha said that the repair work of the blocked road sections has been given top priority. President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, Bijay Bahadur Swar, said that due to the road blockages, especially in the eastern part of Nepal, vehicles that left the valley have not returned on time. 



We have used alternative routes wherever possible,” he said. “This time however, the government authorizes were found to be working in a timely manner to repair the road sections blocked due to disasters,” he added The Pasang Lhamu road section in the Baluwakhani and Tatopani areas of remain completely blocked after a dry landslide. 



The section has also been completely blocked after the Bhotekoshi River cut off about 35-40 meters of the road in the Gosainkunda-3. The Khandbari-Thumsur section has been blocked after floods washed away a temporary water draining near Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 in Sankhuwasabha. 



Similarly, the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section under the Koshi Highway near Makalu Rural Municipality-3 has also been completely blocked due to landslides. The BP Highway remains completely shut after floods and landslides near Mamtikhola, Dalabansi and Buldhunga in Roshi Rural Municipality-11 of Kavre. 



The department has stated that cleaning and repair work is underway. The Mid-Hill Highway located in Kandabagar, Bhume Rural Municipality-4, Rukum (East) was completely blocked by a landslide on Tuesday evening. According to the department, 174 roadways across the country are operation for one-way traffic.

Traffic still remains blocked on various highways

Kathmandu: The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall last Friday and Saturday has risen to 60, police confirmed on Monday.



According to the Nepal Police, the deceased include 19 men, 26 women, and 15 children.



Ilam district has reported the highest number of casualties, with 37 people losing their lives due to floods and landslides. Similarly, eight deaths were reported in Panchthar, three in Udayapur, two in Khotang, and one in Sunsari.



Three fatalities were recorded in Rautahat, while one person each died in Morang, Mahottari, Sindhupalchok, and Sindhuli. Two deaths were reported in Kavre district.



Authorities have deployed rescue teams to the affected areas, while efforts continue to locate missing individuals and provide relief to displaced families.

Death toll from floods and landslides rises to 60 across Nepal

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed sorrow over the loss of human lives and physical property in Ilam and other districts of the country following the heavy rainfall that occurred on Friday and Saturday.



Taking to her social sites last evening, the PM has expressed heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the disasters, and sympathies to the bereaved families.



The PM has shared her appreciation to all who were deployed for rescue and relief operations during the time of crisis.&nbsp;



"The patience and support shown by the Nepali people during the time of crisis are praiseworthy. For this, I would like to thank all from my heart," PM Karki mentioned.&nbsp;



PM Karki has also stated that the relief distributions are ongoing in the disaster-hit areas.

PM Karki expresses sorrow over loss of lives, property

Kathmandu: Forty-six people lost their lives in the recent incidents of natural disaster-- incessant rain, flood and landslide so far. 



Similarly, the life affected due to this has started returning to normal gradually. As per the details of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority as of this afternoon, six people went missing across the nation and 24 were injured from monsoon-induced disaster. 



However, the Armed Police Force Nepal shared that total 55 people died so far from monsoon-induced disaster and road accidents during this period. Thirty-seven people died in landslide in Ilam of Koshi Province as well as human casualties were recorded in other districts of the Province-- Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Udayapur due to landslide and inundation. 



Likewise, the Nepali Army rescued 19 people who were at the risk of natural disaster using helicopters during the period. Assistant Spokesperson at the APF Nepal, Shailendra Thapa, shared that the details as of Sunday night, 49 people died, one went missing and 17 injured in 22 different incidents including road accident in Koshi Province alone. 



Total 490 households were affected due to inundation at Jhapa rural municipality in Jhapa and 1,664 people were shifted to safer places. Similarly, 105 houses were inundated at Gaurigunj of Jhapa. The life in Koshi Province has started returning to normal gradually. The province had recorded the highest human causalities due to landslide, flood following incessant rainfall. 



Chiefs of security bodies of Koshi Province said the security bodies had carried out rescue operation keeping the citizens' life on top priority. NA had rescued those who were trapped at Ireland of Jhapa and pregnant women from Panchthar and Sankhuwasabha by helicopter. 



Efforts are underway to resume vehicular movement on the obstructed highways. A team comprising Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal could not go to Ilam for onsite inspection as roads are blocked at seven different places due to landslide and flood. 



Though a team from Kathmandu was scheduled to visit Ilam, it was not possible due to road obstruction, mentioned Koshi province Chief of APF Nepal, Deputy Inspector General Kumar Neupane.

46 dead in monsoon-induced disasters

Kathmandu: Domestic flights, which had been suspended since Friday due to continuous rainfall, resumed this morning after weather conditions improved, according to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) authorities.



The airport office said flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Bhadrapur have already taken off, while weather conditions in Pokhara and Surkhet have also become favorable for air travel.



International flights, which had been operating regularly since Friday evening, continue as usual, the office confirmed.

Domestic flights resume after weather improvement

Kathmandu: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that continuous monitoring and supervision of relief and rescue operations are underway in response to disasters triggered by recent heavy rainfall.



In a video message released on Saturday, Minister Aryal stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate bodies have been closely observing the situation since October 3, when continuous rainfall began. He added that warnings and alerts have been regularly issued to minimize risks.



The minister also informed that a review meeting was held with chief district officers from all 77 districts, representatives from security agencies, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, and other concerned bodies to evaluate ongoing disaster response efforts.

Home Minister says relief and rescue efforts under continuous monitoring

Kathmandu: Hindus across Nepal celebrated Vijaya Dashami, the most significant day of the Dashain festival, by receiving tika and jamara from elders as blessings for prosperity, good health, and victory of good over evil.



The Panchang Determination Committee announced 11:53 a.m. as the auspicious hour for tika. However, experts clarified that the day itself is auspicious, and the ritual can be performed at any time. 



Tika, prepared using offerings from the nine days of worship since Ghatasthapana, is accompanied by yellow jamara grown during the festival. Devotees first perform an abhishek (ritual sprinkling) with sacred water from the kalash, symbolizing peace and well-being.



Traditionally, the receiver of tika faces east while the giver faces west, in alignment with lunar positions believed to ensure good fortune. The day also commemorates the victory of Lord Ram over Ravana in the Treta Yuga, symbolizing the triumph of truth over falsehood and divine over demonic forces.



Elders bless younger family members with wishes for long life, strength, knowledge, and success, often reciting mantras during the ritual. Those unable to receive tika today may do so until Kojagrat Purnima, the concluding day of the Dashain festival.
