Kathmandu: Internet service providers have decided to increase the fee for internet service up to Rs 300. About a dozen companies have decided to increase the tariff after Nepal Telecom and Nepal Electricity Authority increased the rent of their infrastructure including poles.

According to Sudhir Parajuli, chairman of the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPAN), the decision has cost customers 92 to 93 percent more.

“Companies have submitted proposals to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority to increase the price by Rs 150 per package in urban areas and Rs 300 in rural areas,” said Parajuli.

According to Parajuli, the fee will increase as soon as the Telecommunication Authority gives permission for this.

In recent days, the dispute between Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Telecom over the pole rent of the internet service provider has been escalating. NEA and Telecom are trying to collect rent from the companies providing internet service from their poles.
