Govt to inaugurate Dharahara on April 24

Kathmandu: The reconstructed tower is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on April 24.

According to Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) construction of the Dharahara has come to the final phase. Works of Painting and lighting are ongoing.

The construction work on the parking lot and garden of the Dharahara is remaining. Raman Construction is currently reconstructing the Dharahara, with a contract worth Rs 3.8 billion.

A 23-ropani land of Goshwara Postal and Taxar Department has been vacated and a park is being set up there. The Dharahara will have a museum, theater, water fountain, attractive garden, restaurant, parking and other facilities.

Although the tower is built in the old design when viewed from the outside, it is well-equipped from inside.

Before the 1990 BS earthquake, the tower was 11 storey high. The quake destroyed two floors and was limited to nine floors. According to NEA, the tower has a two-storey underground basement.

The government has a plan to cover and preserve part of the original tower.
