PM Oli’s China visit to be based on ruling party consensus: Home Minister Lekhak
Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has assured that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China will be guided by a consensus between the ruling Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML).
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union in Dhangadhi, Minister Lekhak emphasized that the visit would not cause friction between the coalition partners.
“The Prime Minister’s visit agenda will be prepared following consensus. If the parties fail to reach an agreement on certain topics, such agendas will not be brought forward for bilateral discussions,” he said.
Addressing queries on a potential cabinet reshuffle, Minister Lekhak clarified that no immediate plans are in place, though the Prime Minister retains the authority to make such decisions when deemed necessary.
Regarding Nepal’s engagement with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Lekhak reiterated the Nepali Congress’s position to accept BRI projects as grants rather than loans.
He noted that the UML shares this stance, highlighting a unified understanding on the matter.
“The government was formed to ensure stability, good governance, and economic development. There are no disagreements between the ruling partners, Congress and UML,” he stated.
The minister also mentioned that a joint system at all levels of governance, from the center to the districts, has been established to prevent any issues between the coalition parties.
Minister Lekhak further emphasized that activities violating the law and the constitution will not be tolerated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining order and fostering development.
